Warm Weather Safety Advice

With the warmer weather continuing, many of us will be opening windows and doors to keep our homes cool. Please take a few simple steps to protect yourself, your family and your property:

☀️ Home Security

Avoid leaving windows and doors open when you are out of the house, even for a short period.

Ensure ground-floor windows and easily accessible upstairs windows are secured, especially at night.

Don't leave valuable items such as car keys, handbags, mobile phones or laptops in view of open windows.

Consider using window restrictors where appropriate and remember to lock doors and windows before leaving your home.

🚗 Vehicle Security

Never leave valuables on display in your vehicle.

Ensure windows are fully closed and doors locked when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Remove sat-navs and accessories from view.

🌳 Out and About

Keep personal belongings with you and avoid leaving bags or phones unattended in parks, gardens or public spaces.

Report any suspicious activity to the police.

💧 Water Safety As people spend more time outdoors, please remember that rivers, lakes, canals and reservoirs can be dangerous.

Only swim in designated safe areas where permitted.

Cold water shock can affect even strong swimmers.

Never enter the water after consuming alcohol or drugs.

Keep a close eye on children around water at all times.

If you see someone in difficulty, call 999 and ask for the appropriate emergency service. Do not enter the water yourself unless trained to do so.

By taking a few simple precautions, we can all enjoy the warm weather safely while helping to prevent crime and accidents in our communities.
